Career History
The last 6 months working for TOBC has been really challenging yet very rewarding. After 18 years working for a large restaurant and hotel business it was always going to be difficult to adapt to new ways of working and take on board a new ethos. However it was a great experience and strengthened my opinion that the principles of business can by applied to any industry. Transferable skills are just that, take care of your guests and team and the profits will take care of themselves.
Why do you love working for TOBC?
I love working for TOBC because they know people matter, people make a difference and that they understand the challenges their teams face every day.
I also feel the journey that the company has only just started on is really exciting and I believe there are massive opportunities for people who are willing to work hard and deliver great results. I think the company has an amazing business model and that they have only just scratched the surface of it's potential.
TOBC are really conscious not to create an "us and them" mentality, between the Centre and the support functions. As a Centre Manager you can feel quite comfortable to pick up the phone and discuss a business decision with a Director or Departmental Leader and this family business feel approach is both refreshing and productive.
Advice to Applicants
The advice I would give is to spend time with the support team when you start. I did and this was a fantastic induction for me, to get first hand, what the company want from you, their expectations and get to grips with the business strategy. To meet the great team of people who support us daily, and be able to build relationships with them before starting at Centre was invaluable and would recommend it to anyone.
How would you describe your bowling technique?
Before I started with TOBC I thought I was pretty good. When ever we would win any incentive I would try and get the teams to go bowling as I always did quite well. Now, however, with two National bowlers in my team and some league bowlers too I think we'll be going to some sort of eating contest, I might win that!!
